I hope you can stop by (and please let them know I sent you) to check out my “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once”, which best describes my mixed body of work displayed at the charming Carruth Cellars. This is my first exhibit consisting of over 15 paintings and represents my returning to a creative space, focused on the study of Abstract Art.
I enjoy the gestural-intuitive play, creative discovery and problem-solving process needed in this non-objective discipline. I find losing oneself in a truly creative realm and responding intuitively to shape, line, color and texture, meditating and challenging.
This year I experimented with adding figurative and landscape forms to my gestural/intuitive work. Besides the challenge of integrating the two, the level of self-discipline to my process was amplified. I discovered it required a lot of patience and problem solving to identifying areas I could construct, deconstruct, block, scrape and reveal while continually reviewing the balance of elements and principles of design. Risk of letting go to part or all the work. Trust to implement changes for the painting to evolve and the confidence that these changes will foster a new direction that will bring value. Good life skills.
Favorites - palette knife, wire brush, glazing, vibrant colors and discovering textures
Challenges - when to stop the play and focus on composition - quieting the work with areas of pause and calm
Thank you to my mentors/coaches, fellow artists, friends and family for your continued support.
Special thanks to Carruth Cellars for generously providing the space to allow me to be brave and present my work which feels more difficult than creating it.
I hope to see you there! https://carruthcellars.com/experiences/tasting-rooms/
